inactivated sars-cov-2 vaccine (vero cell)

The inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccine (Vero cell), commonly known by its code name BBIBP-CorV and brand name Covilo, is a whole-virus inactivated vaccine developed by the Beijing Institute of Biological Products, a subsidiary of Sinopharm's China National Biotec Group (CNBG). The vaccine is produced by propagating the HB02 strain of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in Vero cell cultures, followed by inactivation with beta-propiolactone to render the virus non-infectious while preserving its antigenic structure. It is formulated with an aluminum hydroxide adjuvant to enhance immunogenicity. BBIBP-CorV was the first Chinese COVID-19 vaccine to receive Emergency Use Listing (EUL) from the World Health Organization (WHO) and has been widely deployed globally, particularly in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. It is typically administered as a two-dose primary series via intramuscular injection and has been evaluated for safety and immunogenicity as both a primary vaccine and a booster dose.
