The inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccine (Vero cell) is a vaccine developed to prevent COVID-19. It is produced by cultivating SARS-CoV-2 virus strains in Vero cells, followed by inactivation with chemicals such as β-propiolactone or formaldehyde to destroy the viral membrane and genomic structure while preserving antigenic properties. The inactivated virus is then purified, concentrated, and typically adsorbed to aluminum hydroxide as an adjuvant. This vaccine works by introducing the inactivated virus to stimulate the immune system to produce neutralizing antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 without causing infection. Clinical trials have shown the vaccine can induce seroconversion and provide protection against COVID-19.
