Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The inactivated seasonal influenza vaccine 2008-2009 formulation is a pharmaceutical drug designed to prevent seasonal influenza. This specific formulation targeted three influenza virus strains: A/Brisbane/59/2007 (H1N1)-like virus, A/Brisbane/10/2007 (H3N2)-like virus, and B/Florida/4/2006-like virus. The vaccine functions by exposing the immune system to inactivated (killed) viral antigens, primarily hemagglutinin (HA), without causing the disease. This exposure stimulates the body to produce specific antibodies, thereby providing protection against subsequent infection by antigenically similar circulating influenza virus strains. It is typically administered via intramuscular injection.
