The inactivated subvirion H7N9 vaccine is an experimental monovalent influenza vaccine candidate developed for pandemic preparedness against the H7N9 avian influenza virus. It consists of chemically disrupted (subvirion) virus particles, typically derived from the A/Anhui/1/2013 strain. The vaccine is designed to elicit an immune response, primarily targeting the viral hemagglutinin (HA) protein, to provide protection against H7N9 infection and severe respiratory disease. In clinical trials sponsored by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), it has been evaluated as a standalone two-dose regimen or as a booster following priming with a live attenuated influenza vaccine (LAIV) to enhance the breadth and durability of the immune response.
