Overview

Inarigivir is a small molecule investigational antiviral drug developed primarily for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. It acts as an agonist of retinoic acid-inducible gene I (RIG-I), a cytosolic pattern recognition receptor, thereby activating innate immune responses and triggering intracellular interferon signaling pathways to inhibit viral replication[1][6][7][8]. Inarigivir also activates NOD2, another cytosolic sensor involved in immune response, and has demonstrated broad-spectrum antiviral activity against hepatitis B and C viruses, norovirus, RSV, influenza, and parainfluenza[6]. The drug was investigated as both monotherapy and in combination with nucleos(t)ide analogues for HBV. Development was discontinued after serious adverse events occurred during phase II trials[7].
