Overview

InBio (formerly Indoor Biotechnologies) is developing a CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing therapy designed to reduce or eliminate the production of Fel d 1, the primary allergen responsible for the majority of human allergic reactions to cats. The therapy specifically targets the CH1 and CH2 genes that encode the Fel d 1 protein in feline salivary and sebaceous glands. By disrupting these genes, the approach aims to lower the allergen load in the environment, thereby alleviating symptoms for cat-allergic individuals. The program has demonstrated proof-of-concept in feline cells with in vitro editing efficiencies of up to 55% and no observed off-target effects. Currently in preclinical development, the company intends to develop this technology as a treatment that could be administered to existing cats rather than for breeding hypoallergenic cats.
