INCB8696 is a small molecule antagonist of the C-C chemokine receptor type 2 (CCR2), developed by Incyte Corporation in collaboration with Pfizer. CCR2 is a G protein-coupled receptor that plays a critical role in the recruitment of monocytes and macrophages to sites of inflammation. By inhibiting CCR2, INCB8696 was designed to modulate the inflammatory response in autoimmune and chronic inflammatory diseases. The compound entered Phase I clinical trials in 2007 for the treatment of multiple sclerosis. Under the development agreement, Incyte retained rights for multiple sclerosis and lupus nephritis, while Pfizer held rights for other potential indications. However, clinical development for these indications appears to have been discontinued, as the drug is no longer listed in the active pipelines of either company.
