Overview

Inchinkoto (TJ-135) is a traditional Japanese Kampo medicine composed of three specific herbal extracts: *Artemisiae Capillaris Herba* (Inchinko), *Gardeniae Fructus* (Sanshishi), and *Rhei Rhizoma* (Daio). It is widely used in Japan for the treatment of jaundice, liver disorders, and biliary conditions. The drug exerts its therapeutic effects primarily through choleretic activity, which involves increasing bile flow and promoting the excretion of bilirubin and bile acids. Pharmacologically, Inchinkoto acts as an inducer of the multidrug resistance-associated protein 2 (MRP2) and an agonist of the farnesoid X receptor (FXR), both of which are critical for bile homeostasis. Additionally, it has demonstrated anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrotic properties in various liver disease models.
