Overview

Indacaterol + tiotropium is a fixed-dose combination of two long-acting bronchodilators used for the maintenance treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Indacaterol is an ultra-long-acting beta-2 adrenergic agonist that relaxes bronchial smooth muscle by stimulating adrenergic beta-2 receptors in the airways, leading to bronchodilation and improved airflow. Tiotropium is a long-acting antimuscarinic agent that acts primarily on M3 muscarinic receptors in the lungs to produce smooth muscle relaxation and sustained bronchodilation. The combination provides additive or synergistic effects on lung function compared to monotherapy with either agent alone. It is indicated for patients with COPD who require additional bronchodilation when symptoms are not adequately controlled by a single long-acting bronchodilator[2][4][8].
