Overview

Indanazoline is a synthetic imidazoline derivative and small molecule drug primarily used as a topical nasal decongestant for the treatment of acute, chronic, and allergic rhinitis. It acts as an alpha-adrenergic receptor agonist on vascular smooth muscle cells in the nasal mucosa, inducing vasoconstriction that reduces mucosal edema and relieves nasal congestion. Systemically, it can cause increased blood pressure and reduced heart rate at doses much higher than those used therapeutically. Additional pharmacological effects observed in animal models include antiphlogistic (anti-inflammatory), spasmolytic (smooth muscle relaxant), hyperglycemic, and diuretic actions. Indanazoline is generally well tolerated locally with minimal risk of rebound congestion or mucosal damage at recommended intranasal doses[2][5][7].
