Overview

Leningrado is a fixed-dose combination therapy containing indapamide and levamlodipine, developed by the Brazilian pharmaceutical company EMS for the treatment of hypertension. Indapamide is a thiazide-like diuretic that acts on the distal convoluted tubule of the kidney to inhibit sodium and chloride reabsorption, thereby promoting diuresis and reducing plasma volume. Levamlodipine is the (S)-enantiomer of amlodipine, a long-acting dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that selectively inhibits the influx of calcium ions across cell membranes in vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, leading to vasodilation and decreased peripheral vascular resistance. By combining these two mechanisms, Leningrado aims to provide enhanced antihypertensive efficacy and potentially reduce the incidence of dose-dependent side effects associated with monotherapy.
