Overview
Indecainide is a small molecule antiarrhythmic drug of the class Ic group. It was developed and marketed by Lilly under the trade name Decabid but has since been discontinued[1][2]. Indecainide acts as a sodium channel blocker, specifically inhibiting fast inward sodium currents in cardiac Purkinje fibers and other tissues. This action stabilizes cardiac cell membranes and suppresses abnormal electrical activity in the heart, making it effective for treating certain types of arrhythmias[2][5][6]. The drug also exhibits local anesthetic properties due to its membrane-stabilizing effects. Indecainide is absorbed nearly completely after oral administration[2].
