indenolol

Indenolol is a nonselective beta-adrenergic blocker (beta blocker) used primarily for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure). It acts by blocking beta-adrenergic receptors, thereby inhibiting the effects of endogenous catecholamines such as adrenaline and noradrenaline on these receptors. This results in decreased heart rate, reduced myocardial oxygen consumption, and vasodilation. Indenolol exhibits intrinsic sympathomimetic activity (partial agonist effect) at vascular beta-adrenoceptors which may contribute to its vasodilatory properties. It was investigated mainly in the 1980s but is not known to be marketed or approved for clinical use as of recent years. The drug has been studied in clinical trials up to phase II but has no current approved indications or marketed formulations.
