Overview

Indium-111 edotreotide is a radiopharmaceutical diagnostic agent used for the visualization of somatostatin receptor-positive tumors. It consists of edotreotide (DOTA-TOC), a synthetic somatostatin analog, chelated with the gamma-emitting radioisotope indium-111. Edotreotide binds with high affinity to somatostatin receptors (SSTRs), particularly the SSTR2 subtype, which is frequently overexpressed on the surface of neuroendocrine tumors (NETs). Following intravenous administration, the agent localizes to these tumor sites, allowing for detection and localization via Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) imaging. This diagnostic tool is primarily utilized for the staging and management of gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (GEP-NETs) and to assess receptor density in patients being considered for peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT).
