[111In]AC is a radiopharmaceutical diagnostic imaging agent composed of adenosylcobalamin (a form of Vitamin B12) conjugated to a chelator, typically diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA), and labeled with the gamma-emitting radioisotope indium-111. It is utilized in nuclear medicine, specifically Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) imaging, to visualize tumors that exhibit high rates of vitamin B12 uptake. Malignant cells, including those in breast cancer, often overexpress the transcobalamin receptor (CD320) to meet the increased metabolic demands of rapid proliferation and DNA synthesis. By mimicking the natural ligand, [111In]AC binds to the transcobalamin-receptor complex and is internalized via endocytosis, allowing for the non-invasive localization and characterization of primary and metastatic lesions.
