Overview
Individualized Decoction (Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine) is a personalized Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal therapy developed for the treatment of stable bronchiectasis. The treatment is based on the Bronchiectasis Stabilization Decoction (BSD), which serves as a core formula containing herbs such as Rhizoma Fagopyri Cymosi, Radix Lithospermi, Radix Ophiopogonis, Poria cocos, Radix Astragali, Rhizoma Bletillae, Platycodon grandiflorum, and Semen Coicis. This base formula is then modified according to the patient's specific TCM syndrome (syndrome differentiation); for instance, adding Radix Scutellariae for phlegm-heat or Adenophora Root for qi and yin deficiency. The therapy aims to strengthen body resistance and remove phlegm, and it has been evaluated in N-of-1 randomized, double-blind, crossover trials to assess its efficacy in symptom management and its impact on the quality of life in bronchiectasis patients.
