Overview

Indobuprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that was developed as an analog of ibuprofen. It is a racemic compound, meaning it contains both enantiomers (mirror-image forms) of the molecule. Like other NSAIDs, its mechanism of action involves inhibition of cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2), leading to decreased synthesis of prostaglandins, which are mediators of pain, inflammation, and fever. Indobuprofen was investigated for use in the treatment of pain and inflammatory conditions but has not been widely marketed or approved for clinical use in most countries. Its pharmacological profile is similar to that of ibuprofen.
