Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Indolenine M10 is a synthetic multifunctional indolenine derivative developed by researchers at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University and Universiti Malaya. It exhibits potent antibacterial and antibiofilm activity against methicillin-resistant *Staphylococcus aureus* (MRSA), specifically the USA300 LAC strain. Its mechanism of action involves bacterial membrane permeabilization, leading to significant alterations in cell morphology. In addition to its bacteriostatic properties, indolenine M10 inhibits biofilm formation and disperses pre-formed biofilms. It has demonstrated low cytotoxicity in human-derived cell lines (HaCaT, HepG2, HEK-293) and red blood cells, and has shown promising in vivo efficacy in a *Galleria mellonella* larval infection model. Furthermore, indolenine M10 exhibits synergistic effects when combined with oxacillin, effectively resensitizing resistant MRSA strains to the antibiotic.
