indomethacin

Indomethacin is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) of the indole-acetic acid derivative class, used primarily to reduce inflammation, pain, fever, and swelling. It is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of moderate to severe pain associated with osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, acute gouty arthritis, bursitis and tendinitis of the shoulder. It is also used in certain headache disorders (such as paroxysmal hemicrania and hemicrania continua) and for closure of patent ductus arteriosus in premature infants. Its mechanism of action involves potent nonselective inhibition of cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2), leading to decreased synthesis of prostaglandins that mediate inflammation and pain[1][4][5].
