Overview
Indomethacin + capsaicin is a topical combination patch co-formulated with two active ingredients: indomethacin, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), and capsaicin, a TRPV1 receptor agonist. Indomethacin acts by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes, which reduces the synthesis of prostaglandins and alleviates inflammation. Capsaicin serves as a transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) receptor agonist that initially stimulates and then desensitizes nociceptive nerve fibers, leading to a reduction in pain signaling. This dual-mechanism approach targets both inflammatory and neurogenic pain pathways, potentially providing synergistic relief for chronic pain conditions. The product is developed by Imperial Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. and has been evaluated in Phase III clinical trials in China for the treatment of osteoarthritis-related knee pain.
