Drug intelligence / Profile preview
IndoVac is a recombinant protein subunit vaccine developed by the Indonesian state-owned enterprise PT Bio Farma in collaboration with the Baylor College of Medicine. It is designed to provide protection against COVID-19 caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The vaccine's active component is a recombinant version of the Receptor Binding Domain (RBD) of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, which is expressed in the yeast *Pichia pastoris*. This expression platform is chosen for its scalability and cost-effectiveness, similar to the technology used for hepatitis B vaccines. IndoVac is formulated with a dual adjuvant system consisting of aluminum hydroxide and CpG 1018 (a toll-like receptor 9 agonist) to enhance the magnitude and durability of the immune response. It received Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) from the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM) in September 2022 for primary vaccination in adults and was later authorized as a booster dose.
