Overview

Infanrix Hexa is a hexavalent vaccine developed by GSK for the primary and booster vaccination of infants and toddlers. It provides protection against six major pediatric diseases: diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), hepatitis B, poliomyelitis (polio), and invasive diseases caused by Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib). The vaccine is a combination of diphtheria toxoid, tetanus toxoid, three purified pertussis antigens (pertussis toxoid, filamentous haemagglutinin, and pertactin), the purified major surface antigen (HBsAg) of the hepatitis B virus, inactivated poliovirus (types 1, 2, and 3), and Hib capsular polysaccharide conjugated to tetanus toxoid. It is frequently co-administered with pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (such as Synflorix) and rotavirus vaccines (such as Rotarix) in standard pediatric immunization schedules. Clinical studies have evaluated its safety and immunogenicity when given alongside these vaccines, including the impact of prophylactic antipyretics on febrile reactions.
