Overview

Infanrix IPV is a combination vaccine developed by GSK for the active immunization of infants and children against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), and poliomyelitis. It is a tetravalent vaccine containing diphtheria and tetanus toxoids, three purified acellular pertussis antigens (pertussis toxoid, filamentous hemagglutinin, and pertactin), and inactivated poliovirus types 1, 2, and 3. The vaccine works by stimulating the immune system to produce specific antibodies against the bacterial toxins of Corynebacterium diphtheriae and Clostridium tetani, the antigenic components of Bordetella pertussis, and the three types of poliovirus. Infanrix IPV is typically administered as an intramuscular injection and is used as part of a primary vaccination series or as a booster dose. It also serves as a base for more complex combination vaccines, such as the pentavalent Infanrix-IPV+Hib.
