Overview

Infant formula-National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) refers to an investigational high-calorie nutritional intervention studied in the clinical trial NCT00000873. This intervention compared an increased caloric density formula (approximately 26 kcal/oz or 87 kcal/100 ml) against a standard commercial infant formula (20 kcal/oz or 67 kcal/100 ml). Developed by the NIAID, the study targeted HIV-exposed and HIV-infected infants during their first six months of life to evaluate the impact of early caloric supplementation on growth, nutritional status, immune function, and disease progression. The intervention aimed to mitigate the growth failure and nutritional deficiencies frequently observed in pediatric HIV cases.
