Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Versatope Therapeutics is developing a bi-specific malaria vaccine designed to block both the initial infection and the transmission of the parasite. The vaccine utilizes Versatope's proprietary Recombinant Extracellular Transport Vesicle (RET-V) platform, which is based on recombinant outer membrane vesicles (rOMVs) derived from genetically engineered bacteria. This approach aims to provide dual protection by targeting the pre-erythrocytic stage (to prevent infection) and the sexual stages (to prevent transmission to mosquitoes). The project is supported by a $3 million grant from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).
