Overview

InflaMab is an experimental **bispecific monoclonal antibody biologic** developed by researchers at Leiden University in collaboration with Ulster University. It was designed to bind **interleukin-1 receptor type 1** to gain cell entry and thereby inhibit the intracellular **NLRP3 inflammasome** pathway, resulting in suppression of IL-1β release and downstream inflammation. In published preclinical studies, InflaMab reduced IL-1β secretion from bone marrow-derived macrophages, lowered circulating IL-1β in vivo, inhibited atherosclerotic plaque development in apolipoprotein E-deficient mice, and showed neuroprotective activity after intravitreal administration in a mouse glaucoma model. The available evidence supports development-stage use in inflammatory disease settings such as atherosclerosis and potentially glaucoma, with no indication from the provided material that it has advanced beyond preclinical research.
