Overview

Inflammatory skin disease formula (ISDF) is an empirical Chinese medicine formula developed by Professor Zhi-Xiu Lin at the School of Chinese Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. It has been prescribed for many years and observed to be effective in relieving clinical manifestations of atopic dermatitis and psoriasis. The formula contains nine Chinese herbal medicines, including Rehmanniae Radix, Paeoniae Radix Rubra, Scutellariae Radix, Phellodendri Cortex, Forsythiae Fructus, Plantaginis Semen, Vignae Semen, Dictamni Cortex, and Kochiae Fructus. Preclinical studies suggest ISDF inhibits inflammation through the inactivation of the NF-κB p65 pathway, leading to decreased epidermal thickening and mast cell infiltration. Key active components like baicalin, berberine, and paeoniflorin contribute to its anti-inflammatory and anti-psoriatic effects.
