Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The influenza A (H5N1) vaccine is an inactivated or split-virion monovalent vaccine designed to provide immunization against the H5N1 subtype of the influenza A virus. It works by inducing the body to produce antibodies targeting the hemagglutinin protein of H5N1, thereby neutralizing viral infectivity and preventing disease. The vaccines may be adjuvanted (e.g., with AS03) to enhance immune response and are administered intramuscularly. They are primarily indicated for individuals at increased risk of exposure to H5N1 avian influenza and can be updated as new strains emerge. Several formulations have been developed for both human and veterinary use; some are stockpiled for pandemic preparedness[3][4][5][6].
