Influenza A H3N2 strain is a specific subtype of the Influenza A virus that causes seasonal influenza in humans. A particular strain, A/Perth/16/2009 H3N2, has been produced for use as a challenge virus in human clinical research. In these challenge models, the virus is administered to healthy subjects to induce a controlled influenza infection, allowing researchers to study the immune system's response, viral transmission, and to evaluate the efficacy of new therapeutics and vaccine candidates. The virus's hemagglutinin (HA) protein, particularly conserved epitopes within it, is also a key antigenic target for the isolation and development of neutralizing antibodies, such as single-chain variable fragment (scFv) antibodies, aimed at controlling viral spread.
