Overview

Recombinant Influenza A virus subtype H3N2 haemagglutinin is the purified, laboratory-produced form of the viral surface glycoprotein hemagglutinin (HA) from the H3N2 strain of Influenza A. It is used as an active component in certain seasonal influenza vaccines to stimulate immunity against circulating H3N2 strains. The HA protein mediates viral entry by binding to sialic acid receptors on host cells and facilitating membrane fusion. Recombinant production allows for rapid and scalable vaccine manufacturing without using live or inactivated viruses. Flublok is a brand name for such vaccines containing this recombinant HA[7][8]. The primary indication is prevention of seasonal influenza caused by H3N2 strains.
