Overview

The Influenza alphavaccine is an investigational vaccine developed by AlphaVax, Inc., utilizing its proprietary alphavaccine platform technology. The platform employs virus-like replicon particles (VRP) derived from an attenuated strain of the Venezuelan equine encephalitis (VEE) virus. These VRPs function as propagation-defective, single-cycle RNA replicon vectors that are engineered to express specific influenza antigens, primarily the hemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA) proteins. Upon administration, the vaccine delivers the RNA replicon into host cells, where it undergoes a single round of replication and high-level antigen expression, thereby inducing both potent humoral (antibody) and cellular immune responses. AlphaVax has developed multiple iterations of this vaccine targeting seasonal influenza strains (such as H3N2) and pandemic strains (including H1N1 and H5N1).
