influenza vaccine

The influenza vaccine is an immunization agent used in the InVaACS (Influenza Vaccination After Acute Coronary Syndrome) clinical trial, led by Tongji Hospital, to evaluate its efficacy in preventing major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) in patients with acute coronary syndrome. The vaccine works by inducing active immunity against influenza virus strains, typically targeting the viral hemagglutinin protein. In the context of cardiovascular disease, the vaccine is hypothesized to provide protection not only by preventing viral infection but also by reducing the systemic inflammatory response, sympathetic activation, and procoagulant states that often follow influenza infection and can trigger plaque rupture or myocardial infarction. This trial specifically investigates whether routine influenza vaccination can decrease rates of cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, and stroke in the Chinese ACS patient population.
