Overview

A trivalent inactivated influenza vaccine (aTIV) formulated with the MF59 adjuvant, a squalene-based oil-in-water emulsion. It is specifically indicated for active immunization against influenza caused by the specific subtypes A and type B contained in the vaccine in adults 65 years of age and older. The MF59 adjuvant is designed to enhance the immune response by creating a local immunostimulatory environment and improving the recruitment of antigen-presenting cells, which is particularly beneficial for the elderly population who often exhibit immunosenescence. Originally developed by Novartis, the vaccine was part of the 2015 acquisition by CSL and is now managed by Seqirus.
