Overview
A quadrivalent, inactivated, split-virion biologic vaccine designed to provide active immunization against four strains of the influenza virus: two influenza A subtypes (H1N1 and H3N2) and two influenza B lineages (Victoria and Yamagata). The vaccine is produced by chemically disrupting (splitting) the influenza virus, typically grown in embryonated chicken eggs, and purifying the resulting antigens, primarily hemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA). It is indicated for the prevention of seasonal influenza in adults and children from 6 months of age. Major manufacturers include Sanofi, GlaxoSmithKline, and Seqirus.
