Overview

This is a quadrivalent subunit influenza vaccine produced using Madin-Darby Canine Kidney (MDCK) cell culture technology. Developed by the Changchun Institute of Biological Products (a subsidiary of Sinopharm's China National Biotec Group), it was the first MDCK cell-based quadrivalent subunit influenza vaccine to receive marketing authorization in China (September 2023). Unlike traditional egg-based vaccines, the MDCK cell-based process avoids egg-adaptive mutations in the hemagglutinin protein, potentially offering a better antigenic match to circulating strains and providing a safer option for individuals with egg allergies. As a subunit vaccine, it contains highly purified surface antigens (hemagglutinin and neuraminidase) from four influenza strains (A/H1N1, A/H3N2, B/Victoria, and B/Yamagata), which typically results in a lower incidence of adverse reactions compared to whole-virus or split-virion vaccines.
