Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MF59C.1-adjuvanted subunit influenza vaccine is an inactivated influenza vaccine containing purified surface antigens (hemagglutinin and neuraminidase) from influenza virus strains, formulated with the MF59C.1 adjuvant. MF59 is a squalene-based oil-in-water emulsion that enhances the magnitude and breadth of the immune response by creating a local immunostimulatory environment and improving antigen uptake by dendritic cells. This adjuvanted formulation is particularly designed to improve vaccine efficacy in populations with lower immune responsiveness, such as the elderly and young children. Originally developed by Novartis Vaccines (now part of CSL Seqirus), it is widely marketed under the brand name Fluad for the prevention of seasonal influenza.
