Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Adjuvanted trivalent influenza virus vaccine (marketed as Fluad) is an inactivated, surface antigen vaccine containing hemagglutinin and neuraminidase from three influenza strains (typically two A subtypes and one B lineage). It is formulated with the MF59 adjuvant, a squalene-based oil-in-water emulsion designed to enhance the magnitude and breadth of the immune response in older adults (65 years and older). Developed by Novartis and currently marketed by CSL Seqirus, the vaccine addresses the reduced immune response to standard influenza vaccines seen in the elderly due to immunosenescence. It is administered via intramuscular injection and is updated annually to match circulating strains.
