Overview

**Focetria** is an egg-derived, inactivated, monovalent pandemic influenza vaccine developed by Novartis for prevention of influenza caused by the 2009 pandemic influenza A(H1N1) virus. Each 0.5 mL intramuscular dose contains 7.5 micrograms of influenza-virus surface antigens from an A/California/07/2009(H1N1)-derived strain, formulated with the squalene-based oil-in-water emulsion adjuvant MF59C.1. The viral hemagglutinin and neuraminidase antigens stimulate strain-specific humoral immunity, including hemagglutination-inhibition and neutralizing antibodies; MF59 enhances the magnitude and speed of the immune response.
