Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CAIV-T + TIV refers to the comparative evaluation or co-administration context of the Cold-Adapted Influenza Vaccine, Trivalent (CAIV-T) and the Trivalent Inactivated Influenza Vaccine (TIV). CAIV-T, marketed as FluMist, is a live attenuated, refrigerator-stable vaccine administered intranasally, designed to mimic natural infection and induce mucosal immunity. TIV is the traditional injectable vaccine containing inactivated viral components. These two vaccine types were compared in a pivotal Phase 3 trial (NCT00192257) involving children and adolescents with asthma, where CAIV-T demonstrated superior efficacy in preventing culture-confirmed influenza compared to TIV without increasing asthma-related adverse events.
