Overview

Influenza virus quadrivalent inactivated vaccine is an injectable vaccine containing four inactivated (killed) influenza viruses—two influenza A subtypes and two distinct lineages of influenza B. It is designed to provide active immunization against seasonal influenza by inducing an immune response to the hemagglutinin antigens present on the surface of the included viral strains. The mechanism of action involves stimulating the production of neutralizing antibodies that target these hemagglutinin proteins, thereby preventing infection or reducing disease severity upon exposure to circulating flu viruses. The quadrivalent formulation was developed to broaden protection by including both B/Victoria and B/Yamagata lineages alongside two A strains (H1N1 and H3N2). These vaccines are produced using either egg-based or cell-based manufacturing processes depending on the brand. They are indicated for annual prophylaxis against seasonal influenza for individuals aged six months and older[2][5][6][7][8].
