Overview

The influenza virus split vaccine (low protein, low ovalbumin) is a seasonal influenza vaccine developed by Zhifei (Chongqing Zhifei Biological Products Co., Ltd.). It is an inactivated split virion vaccine produced by inoculating chicken embryos with WHO-recommended influenza virus strains, followed by culture, inactivation, and purification. This specific formulation is characterized by its low protein content, low ovalbumin (egg albumin) residue, and low endotoxin levels, which is designed to provide a safer profile and reduce the risk of allergic reactions associated with egg-based production. The vaccine works by eliciting strain-specific neutralizing antibody responses against the hemagglutinin and neuraminidase antigens of the seasonal influenza virus strains.
