Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A combination product composed of a **commercial inactivated influenza virus vaccine** mixed with **W805EC**, an oil-in-water nanoemulsion-based mucosal adjuvant intended for intranasal administration. W805EC is formulated from pharmaceutical-grade surfactants, soybean oil, ethanol, and water, yielding droplets of approximately 400 nm diameter. The combination is designed to enhance both mucosal and systemic immune responses to influenza antigens via the nasal route, efficiently generating high titers of serum and mucosal antibodies, as well as robust Th1, Th2, and Th17 cellular immunity. Preclinical data indicate this combination can elicit stronger and broader immunogenicity—including cross-protection against influenza strains not present in the original vaccine—than non-adjuvanted intramuscular vaccines, all while using significantly less antigen. The product has demonstrated an acceptable safety profile and dose-sparing potential in animal models, with no significant safety issues observed. W805EC acts principally by promoting antigen uptake by epithelial and dendritic cells, followed by antigen transfer and maturation of dendritic cells[1][2].
