Overview
Infracyanine is a specific iodine-free formulation of indocyanine green (ICG), a water-soluble tricarbocyanine dye used as a diagnostic fluorescent imaging agent. Developed for clinical use in procedures such as sentinel lymph node (SLN) mapping, it is being evaluated by the Association Pour La Recherche des Thérapeutiques Innovantes en Cancérologie (ARTC) specifically for women with early-stage breast cancer. In the FLUO-BREAST clinical trial, Infracyanine is administered via periareolar injection, where it binds to endogenous albumin and migrates through the lymphatic system. This allows for the real-time visualization of lymphatic drainage and the identification of sentinel nodes using near-infrared (NIR) fluorescence imaging, providing a non-radioactive alternative to traditional technetium-99m isotope lymphoscintigraphy.
