Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Infradure** is a gene therapy based on Medgenics' proprietary Biopump™ platform, utilizing a subcutaneous autologous skin tissue implant derived from the patient's own biopsy to enable sustained production and delivery of **interferon alpha-2b** (IFNα-2b). It targets the **interferon alpha/beta receptor (IFNAR)** to provide continuous therapeutic levels of IFNα for chronic hepatitis treatment, avoiding frequent injections associated with standard IFNα therapies. Developed primarily by **Medgenics** (later associated with **Aevi Genomic Medicine**), it received **FDA orphan drug designation** for **hepatitis D** and was planned for Phase I/II trials in **hepatitis C** in Israel around 2012.[1][3][4][5][7][9]
