Overview

IPFP-SVF (Infrapatellar Fat Pad-derived Stromal Vascular Fraction) is an autologous cell therapy consisting of a heterogeneous population of cells extracted from the infrapatellar fat pad, also known as Hoffa's fat pad. The stromal vascular fraction is obtained through enzymatic digestion or mechanical processing of the adipose tissue and contains mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), endothelial progenitor cells, pericytes, fibroblasts, and various immune cells. IPFP-SVF is primarily investigated for the treatment of knee articular cartilage injuries and osteoarthritis. The therapeutic effect is attributed to the regenerative potential of the MSCs, which can differentiate into chondrocytes, and the secretion of paracrine factors that modulate inflammation and promote tissue repair within the joint environment. The IPFP is considered a superior source for joint-related cell therapies due to its anatomical proximity to the knee joint and the high chondrogenic potential of its resident stem cells.
