INH-001 is an inhaled, muco-trapping monoclonal antibody developed by Inhalon Biopharma for the treatment and prevention of COVID-19. Administered via a nebulizer, INH-001 is designed to provide high concentrations of neutralizing antibodies directly to the respiratory tract, the primary site of SARS-CoV-2 infection. The drug utilizes a proprietary muco-trapping platform where the antibody's Fc region is engineered to bind to mucins within the airway mucus. When the antibody's Fab region binds to the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, the virus becomes tethered to the mucus layer, preventing it from reaching and infecting the respiratory epithelium. This "trapping" mechanism facilitates the clearance of the virus through the natural mucociliary escalator. This localized delivery method aims to achieve therapeutic concentrations at the primary site of infection while reducing the dose required and minimizing systemic side effects compared to intravenous antibody therapies.
