Inh-20 is a preclinical-stage small molecule inhibitor of bacterial beta-glucuronidase developed by Symberix. It is specifically designed to modulate gut microbial activity to alleviate diarrhea and other lower gastrointestinal side effects, particularly those induced by drugs. By inhibiting the bacterial enzyme beta-glucuronidase in the gut, Inh-20 prevents the reactivation of glucuronidated drug metabolites (such as those from chemotherapy agents like irinotecan), which are otherwise converted back into toxic forms by the microbiome, causing intestinal damage and diarrhea. This approach aims to mitigate dose-limiting toxicities without interfering with the systemic efficacy of the primary therapeutic agent.
