Overview

A combination therapy consisting of an **inhaled corticosteroid (ICS)** and a **long-acting muscarinic antagonist (LAMA)**, delivered via inhalation. Inhaled corticosteroids act as anti-inflammatory agents by suppressing airway inflammation, while long-acting muscarinic antagonists work as bronchodilators via inhibition of muscarinic (primarily M3) receptors on airway smooth muscle, leading to reduced bronchoconstriction, airway tone, and mucus secretion. This combination targets both airway inflammation and bronchomotor tone and is investigated and/or used primarily for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and difficult-to-control asthma, either as dual therapy or as components of triple therapy regimens. There is substantial evidence supporting the use of LAMA plus ICS (often with a long-acting beta2-agonist) to reduce exacerbations and improve lung function and asthma control in certain populations; however, dedicated single-inhaler ICS+LAMA products are rare, and most combination products are either ICS/LABA or LAMA/LABA or triple combinations [2][3][4].
