Overview

Inhaled recombinant alpha-1 antitrypsin (AAT) is an enzyme replacement therapy being developed by Kamada for the treatment of alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AATD). Administered via the eFlow nebulizer, this therapy delivers the protein directly to the lungs, which is the primary site of disease activity in most AATD patients. By restoring the protease-antiprotease balance, it inhibits neutrophil elastase, thereby protecting delicate lung tissue from proteolytic degradation and slowing the progression of emphysema. This approach potentially requires lower drug doses compared to intravenous infusions and offers improved patient convenience.
