Overview

INM-089 is a proprietary small molecule drug candidate developed by InMed Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), with a primary focus on dry AMD and geographic atrophy. It acts as a selective dual agonist of cannabinoid receptor 1 (CB1) and cannabinoid receptor 2 (CB2), both part of the endocannabinoid system. Activation of these receptors is associated with neuroprotective effects, improved retinal pigment epithelium integrity, reduction in extracellular autofluorescent deposits such as drusen, preservation of photoreceptor function, and maintenance of retinal structure. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that INM-089 can be successfully delivered via intravitreal injection at doses up to ten times the projected therapeutic level, indicating a favorable safety margin and pharmacokinetic profile[1][2][5][6].
